Day 1

 

Airport / Pinnawela / Sigiriya

 

Arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport, welcome by Orchid Garlands and transfer to Sigiriya.

 

En route visit the Elephant Orphanage at Pinnawela, home to a large herd of elephants and view orphaned baby elephants found displaced in the jungles, being bottle fed their milk.

 

Pinnawela... the Elephant Orphanage located on the banks of the Maha Oya, established to give shelter to elephants who are displaced from their natural habitats due to various reasons. Such as, environmental changes due to development projects, being abandoned by their parents when they fall into pits and ravines, etc. It is most interesting to visit Pinnawela at feeding time when the baby elephants are bottle fed their milk, or at bath time when the whole herd walks down to the river for their baths.

 

Afternoon climb Sigiriya, 5th-century rock fortress. Highlights of Sigiriya include frescoes, the Mirror Wall with graffiti and the Lion's Stairway.

 

Overnight stay at Sigiriya Village (Standard) or similar in Sigiriya.

 

 

Day 2

 

Sigiriya / Dambulla / Kandy

 

Breakfast

 

Leave for hill capital Kandy, en route visiting Dambulla Cave Temple.

 

Kandy ... The last capital of the Sri Lankan kings which is a world heritage site. The name Kandy conjures vision of splendour of magnificence. Many of the legends, traditions and folklore are still alive. Drive around the Kandy Lake built by the last king Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1806; visit the Kandy town bazaar, the arts and the crafts centre and a gem museum and lapidary.

 

In the evening visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and thereafter witness a traditional cultural dance show.


Overnight stay at Hotel Thilanka (Deluxe) or similar in Kandy.

 

 

 

Day 3

 

Kandy / Nuwara Eliya

 

Breakfast

 

After breakfast leave for the Royal Botanical Gardens consisting of 147 acres of landscaped gardens surrounded by the Mahaweli River. The Botanical Gardens have more than 5000 species of plants including rare collections of orchids, spices and medicinal herbs.

 

Thereafter leave half a way towards Nuwara Eliya by train. Then the rest of the way by vehicle to N’Eliya. "Little England" through the Ramboda Pass surrounded by "Green Carpets"- hills covered with Tea and cascading Water Falls amidst breathtakingly beautiful landscapes.

 

En route visit a Tea Factory and a Plantation to witness the manufacturing process of world famous "Ceylon Tea" and to taste a pure unblended cup of factory fresh tea before being sent to the Tea Auctions in Colombo leading to Export.

 

Evening is free for walks /tour around the city - the important places being the Victoria Park, Gregory Lake, Golf Course, and Market etc.

 

Overnight stay at Silver Falls Hotel or similar hotel in Nuwara Eliya

 

 

Day 4

 

Nuwara Eliya / Colombo

 

Breakfast

 

After breakfast leave for Horton Plains - Sri Lanka's most isolated plateau at an altitude of over 2000 meters to visit World's End - a sheer drop of 1050 meters with a stunning view down below and Baker's Fall.

 

Leave for Colombo.

 

Overnight stay at Galle Face Hotel ( Classic Wing ) or similar hotel in Colombo.

 

 

Day 5

 

Colombo / Airport

 

Transfer to Airport for departure.
